MHAA Grants Awarded
The Maryland Heritage Areas Authority (MHAA) has awarded the Four Rivers Heritage Area and its partners more than $2.7 million in capital and non-capital matching grants, including support for the following projects:
- Capital and safety repairs funding to Historic Annapolis for the William Paca House and Gardens
- Development of Phase 2 of Project Run-A-Way - Freedom Bound: Runaways of the Chesapeake, an installment at the William Paca House and a traveling exhibit to Historic Annapolis
- Research and development of a Master Plan for the historic Henry Wilson Farmhouse and adjacent Negro League (Hot Sox) ball field in Galesville.
- Preliminary Research and Planning (Phase 1) of the Reconstruction of London Town’s 18th-century Rumney-West Ordinary at Historic London Town and Gardens
- A restroom modernization project at the nearly 80-year old building housing a premier arts venue, the Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts
- Development and distribution of the public program, Project Run-A-Way, regarding the history of enslaved people and servants in the early Chesapeake, created by the Historic Annapolis Foundation
- Interpretive exhibit installation at the historic Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse, situated in the waters near Annapolis
- Fabrication and installation of the “Oysters on the Half Shell” exhibition at the Annapolis Maritime Museum
- Development of a Master Plan for the Chew Site, an archaeological site in Friendship, MD
- Restoration and rehabilitation of the historic Charles Carroll House
- An archaeological survey, new website, and stabilization of the historic ruins at the Contee Farm at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center
- Preservation and renovation of Annapolis Maritime Museum's McNasby’s Building
- Development and implementation of an interpretive plan for Maynard-Burgess House in Annapolis
- Restoration of the Southgate Memorial Fountain in Annapolis
- Reconstruction of a carpenter’s shop using traditional building methods at Historic London Town & Gardens
- Expansion of the Annapolis & Anne Arundel County Conference and Visitor’s Bureau on West Street
- Planning for the 300th anniversary celebration of the charter of the city of Annapolis in 2008
- Development of a children’s audio tour of the Annapolis historic district by the Historic Annapolis Foundation
- Restoration and rehabilitation of the historic gardens at Historic Annapolis Foundation’s William Paca House
- Construction of a visitor orientation center at Historic London Town & Gardens
- Creation of community education materials for Shade Side Rural Heritage Society
- Design for interpretive exhibits at the Galesville Heritage Museum
- Installation of new restrooms in the visitors' center of Historic London Town & Gardens
- Research for resource inventory about slavery in the heritage area, along with an innovative “Slavery Roundtable” by the Kunta Kinte-Alex Haley Foundation
- Building renovations for Historic Annapolis Foundation’s HistoryQuest at the St. Clair Wright History Center
- Development of introductory video for HistoryQuest
- Development of audio tour of Historic London Town & Gardens
- Reconstruction of the 17th-century Lord Mayor’s Tenement at Historic London Town & Gardens
- Engineering and design study for renovation to historic structure of McNasby’s for the Annapolis Maritime Museum
- Analysis of Mayo Road/Londontown Road roadside/streetscape enhancements
- Development of an African-American Experience exhibit and brochure for the Annapolis & Anne Arundel County Conference & Visitors Bureau (AAACCVB)
- Annual operating and program assistance to the Four Rivers Heritage Area
- Heritage area marketing to the AAACCVB
- Low-interest business loan to Discover Annapolis Tour for a new trolley
